MEALS BY THE FIREPLACE

In Lisbon and particularly in the surrounding villages, one can find several restaurants where the table is set by the fireplace. The result is always amazing.

Even without scientific proof, there seems to be nothing more comforting than a meal in front of a fireplace. And if the reasons for that fact are somehow lost in time – perhaps a genetic heritage from our ancestors that assures us safety by the fire or an impression left by many accumulated memories of 80’s flicks that created the romance by the fireplace fetish? – the true is that this fascination seems to cross generations and tastes.

Cosmopolitan Lisbon, with ever more modern constructions, still hides some houses that conserve their fireplaces, offering them to those who would like to appreciate them. In Cascais and Sintra, where the sea and mountain breezes call for the heat of a good fireplace, a few restaurants still offer the aroma of roasting pine cones.
